The Latin-SEQ+ study has highlighted a need for greater genetic counselling support across Latin America to help deliver genomic medicine effectively.

Based on interviews with patients and healthcare professionals, we have developed practical resources to support informed decision-making and consent for genetic testing. Clinicians also identified a need for guidance on when genetic testing should be considered in children.

We have developed a toolkit “My genes my choice” to help patients and families understand genetic testing, consider the questions that are important to them, and discuss these with their healthcare professionals and relatives before making a decision.

We have developed a poster for healthcare professionals providing a practical checklist of the information patients should receive before being offered a genetic test.

The patient toolkit and clinician poster are designed to complement each other and support conversations between patients, families and healthcare professionals.

This short animated video helps explain genetic testing to patients and families, so they can better understand when testing a child for a genetic condition should be considered.

These resources are currently available in English. Spanish versions will be available on this website by 31 October 2026.
